Foothill Extension Update: Ontario Airport Extension Study

Last week, the Construction Authority board approved issuing a Request for Proposals to conduct an Alternative Analysis for the Ontario Airport Extension. This next required step in the planning process for the proposed eight mile extension from the Montclair TransCenter to the airport, will take approximately two years to complete and provide more detail on the route options and mode choices available to make this connection.
During their discussion, the board raised concerns about a recent recommendation by a committee of the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) board to list the Gold Line as the lowest priority rail project for the agency. The recommendation included both the 1.5-mile extension from Claremont to Montclair, as well as the Ontario Airport Extension.
Over the coming weeks, the board plans to work cooperatively with SANBAG to understand their issues and concerns. The board reaffirmed at the recent meeting that they believe connecting the Gold Line to San Bernardino County is an important priority, especially the airport connection.
